Korean Braised Potatoes (감자조림) Recipe

Pronounced “Gamja Jorim” in Korean, this well-known side dish can be literally translated as Potato Braise.

Unlike Korean traditional dining, I don’t make a lot of side dishes because
people usually make huge portions of different side dishes (so that they don’t have to worry about making them each day)
while I can probably never finish all those by myself before they go bad and I get easily bored of what I eat.

But I saw an extremely simple recipe for Korean braised potatoes,
and wanted to share it after my successful attempt at making it on the first try.


Ingredients: (2 servings)

2 potatoes
4 spoons of soy sauce
4 spoons of starch syrup or sugar
a pinch of sesame seeds (optional)


Step 1. Chop each potato into 4 to 8 pieces and place them in a small pot.
Add 4 spoons of soy sauce and 4 spoons of starch syrup or sugar.


Step 2. Cook in high heat until it starts to boil.


Step 3. Leave in low heat for 5 minutes.


Step 4. Stir and leave in low heat for another 5 minutes.


Step 5. When finished, let it cool and place in a container or serve with sesame seeds sprinkled on top (optional).
